Peter Blandino began his musical studies in 1978 at the University of Miami School of Music in Coral Gables, Florida, as a student of Luciano Magnanini. Peter graduated with a Master’s Degree in bassoon performance in 1984.

In 1983, Peter met Maurice Allard, the great French bassoon player and teacher, at the International Double Reed Society Convention in Tallahassee, Florida. While Peter had been enamored with the sound of the French bassoon from recordings before this time, after hearing Allard first-hand, he was convinced that some day he would try to learn to play this beautiful instrument. Throughout the eighties Peter made a living playing his German bassoon, all the while longing to play French bassoon.

In 1989 Peter changed careers and became an airline pilot. Today he is an Airbus Captain for American Airlines. Several years ago, still longing to play the French bassoon, Peter purchased an old French instrument and began to teach himself how to play it. Today he plays a modern Buffet bassoon and, while still making a living flying airplanes, Peter is an active freelance bassoonist in Phoenix, Arizona. He plays Buffet exclusively.
