“Melancoli” FP 105 is one of Francis Poulenc’s most popular works for solo piano. It was composed in 1940 while France was occupied by Nazi Germany and was published in 1945 when the war was over.

Transcribed for the Mill Ave Chamber Players during their 2022-2023 season. 

Scored for woodwind quintet: flute, oboe, clarinet in B flat, horn, and bassoon. The bassoon will require a low A extension to play the arrangement as written. It should be inserted for the beginning of the piece and needs to be removed during the two measure rest at measure 71. If an extension is not accessible, play the low As up an octave.
