Mill Ave Chamber Players Announces Seventh Season

The Mill Ave Chamber Players is excited to announce 15 concerts it is performing and presenting this season.  This includes two new chamber music series: the Peoria Center for the Performing Arts, where MACP are the presenting artists and the Glendale Public Library's "Live at the Library" Series.

The Peoria Center for the Performing Arts is the home to Theaterworks, where Executive Director, Daniel Schay, invited MACP to start a new chamber music series.  This first season will include four concerts, where MACP will collaborate with Quartet Sabaku, Pianist Snezana Krstic, and other valley musicians to perform works of Latin American composers as part of the CALA Festival, Schubert Octet, Beethoven Septet, Mozart's Piano Quintet, and the Serenade for Winds and Strings by Dvorak.  Tickets are available online at theaterworks.org.

10/9 Cala Festival Celebration

The Mill Ave Chamber Players celebrates composers of Latin America including Astor Piazzolla, Paquito D'Rivera, Manuel Ponce, Arturo Marquez, and Carlos Chavez with a concert of works for woodwind quintet and percussion as part of the Celebración Artística de las Américas.

11/6 Beethoven Septet and Schubert Octet

Inspired by Beethoven’s beloved Septet, Schubert composed his largest chamber music work when commissioned by a famous Austrian Count, who was also an accomplished clarinetist. Composed almost 25 years apart, both premieres were performed by many of the same musicians!

The Mill Ave Chamber Players will collaborate with Quartet Sabaku for this fantastic concert. Quartet Sabaku is composed with members of the Phoenix Symphony and the Arizona Opera Orchestra. With their energetic and lively style they have delighted community and school audiences across Arizona for the last ten years. As part of a cultural exchange between the states of Arizona and Sinaloa, Mexico they were sent to the Festival de las Artes in October, 2000. Members of the Quartet have extensive backgrounds in chamber music, symphony playing, university teaching, traditional string pedagogy and Suzuki teaching. Quartet Sabaku members are the resident instructors at the West Valley Chamber Music Camp. Quartet Sabaku has been on the Artists Roster of the Arizona Commission on the Arts since 1999.

MACP awarded the Glendale Performing Arts Partnership Grant to Fund the "Live at the Library" Series

In May, Mill Ave Chamber Players was awarded the Glendale Performing Arts Partnership Grant, where eight grants were awarded to 29 applicant.  MACP partnered with the Glendale Public Library to fund the "Live at the Library" Series. The “Live at the Library” is a multi-disciplinary performing arts series that has been offered free to the public for the past 25 seasons at Glendale’s Main Public Library.  Until the 2009-2010 performance season, the “Live at the Library” series offered these quality programs every Thursday evening from November through May.  Due to significant staff and budget cuts, the library was forced to dramatically reduce the number of programs offered. However, programs are still being offered on the fourth Thursday evening of each month, September through July.  These free public concerts afford retirees, young families, the disabled, and group-home residents easy access to a wide variety of exceptional performances.  This grant has enabled MACP to provide six concerts throughout the 2013-2014 season, each on Thursday evening from 6:30-7:30 PM.
