Tom Breadon, Bassoon, joins MACP for the 2015-2016 season
Thomas Breadon, bassoon, will join us for the 2015-2016 season, after Peter has taken a one-year sabbatical. Tom has been active with MACP over the past season, including our recent recording of Kerry Turner's Navajo Mandala and taught at our Chamber Music Camp at Arizona School for the Arts in June.
Thomas Mark Breadon, Jr. is a bassoonist and composer from Cincinnati, Ohio. He has received a Bachelors in Bassoon Performance from Morehead State University, and a Masters degree in Bassoon Performance from The University of Akron where he was a Teaching Assistant in both Bassoon Performance and Music Theory. He is currently finishing a DMA in Bassoon Performance where he was previously a Teaching Assistant in the Bassoon Studio.
As a performer, Thomas has taken part in five separate performance competitions over the last six years. Thomas was the winner of the A. Frank and Bethel C. Gallaher Memorial Music Performance Competition Award in 2009, the winner of The University of Akron Concerto Competition in 2011, the winner of the Arden J. Yockey Scholarship for Woodwinds in 2012, received Honorable Mention in the Final Round of Tuesday Musical Association Performance Competition in 2012, and was the winner of the Sixth Annual James Tannenbaum Memorial Scholarship Contest in 2013.
After Performing and touring with various ensembles throughout the United States and Spain, Thomas has the pleasure to share the stage with some very well known performers, composers and ensembles, such as: The Imani Winds, Michael Chertock, Ilya Kaler, Rachel Barton Pine, Dana Wilson, Nestor Torres, along with many others. Thomas has also had the opportunity to perform the Gordon Jacob Bassoon Concerto as a soloist with the University of Akron Symphony Orchestra on the main stage at E.J. Thomas Hall in 2012.
Today, Thomas enjoys performing, composing, and teaching in the Phoenix/Tempe area. He is the staff arranger for the nonprofit organization Clarinets for Conservation, and he just recently accepted an adjunct instructor position at Glendale Community College where he teaches music theory and bassoon. When Thomas is not teaching or playing acoustic bassoon, he is usually playing electric/jazz bassoon with a number of jazz combos in the Phoenix area, or electric/rock bassoon with a number of bands in the Cincinnati, Ohio area.
